Timothy Wayne Kyle

Timothy Wayne Kyle, born in Sasebo, Japan, age 57, passed away with his family around him on Saturday, July 7th, 2018. He was a resident of Portage for 30 years. He worked for the Kalamazoo Public School system, was employed at Loy Norrix High School in the Special Education department for the past 13 years and simultaneously built connections with the Kalamazoo business community, connecting students with local employment. To describe Timothy, picture a kaleidoscope; his personal Facebook "About Me" section details his favorite adventures in life, it reads "Grew up outside of D.C. in Rockville, MD. After college, I became a roadie and sound engineer for a Christian rock band. Moved to Michigan to become a teacher, but that only lasted one year. Went into floor covering sales and that lasted for 21 years across 4 companies. During that time, I got married to Karen and we had 4 children. Played in a white christian metal band called Remnant in the late 80's, released a single on a compilation disc that sold somewhere over 10,000 units. Still run sound at church, now at about 10 years on. In 2006, I went back to school and got my teaching certificate and I am currently working as a special education teacher. I love it!!!" A few memories we loved that he didn't mention were the years we spent watching him play the big Bass Drum for the Kalamazoo Pipe Band, the endless rock concerts he experienced with Iain, the "Cheer-Dad" support he dedicated to Erin, the inner "nerd" he revealed to Lauren and he shared a passion for advocacy on behalf of our LGBTQ community with his daughter Kaylin. He was deeply, fully loved by his family and the community around him. Timothy Wayne Kyle was proceeded in death by his Father, Walter Edward Kyle. Timothy is survived by his wife, Karen Kyle, his four children, Iain Kyle, Erin Kyle, Lauren Kyle and Kaylin Kyle; his grandson, Marshall Dennis; his mother Gertrude Mays Kyle; his two sisters & their husbands, Dawn Hardy and Mike Hardy and Rebecca Bush and Roger Bush. Timothy was a well loved uncle to 11 nieces and nephews as well as their children. Timothy also deeply cherished by his 3 furbabies, Chance, Peanut and Teddy!
