Rebecca Ann Chadwell

The family of Becky Chadwell is sad to share that Becky passed away peacefully from brain cancer on June, 11 2020, at home with her husband and mother by her side. Rebecca Ann Chadwell, 55, a life long resident of Portage, Michigan, was born on July 31, 1964 the daughter of Robert Matthew and Dolores (Drenth) Scobey of Portage, MI. Becky was proceeded in death by her father Bob, and her brother, Dr. Jack Scobey, of Schoolcraft, MI. Becky is survived by her mother Dolores and her husband Craig. Becky attended Portage Northern and excelled in Debate going to the state finals and singing, performing solo at the Kalamazoo Civic Theater. Becky was a hard worker with a friendly smile and a natural at managing people as the new employee trainer Arby's on Westnedge at only 16. Becky earned a salary Manager position at Denny's off 1-94 in Kalamazoo at only 19 years old. Returning to Western Michigan University, Becky received her bachelor's degree in business and met her future husband Craig Steele Chadwell, leading to marriage on July 5th, 1986. Naturally drawn to people, Becky became a technical recruiter with a national firm in 1993. To better serve clients, she opened Chadwell & Associates in 1996 and operated her company until 2015. Dogs and blowing glass entered Becky's heart later in life. Glassblowing developed her artistic abilities that could be nurtured and continuously built upon. After several years, Becky was voted in as the Board President of the non-profit West Michigan Glass Arts Center in Kalamazoo. Becky's background in business and working relationships was the experience needed to allow the current Glass Arts Kalamazoo to reopen. Becky was proud to have the opportunity to volunteer for 18 months full time, giving up her recruiting career as the people part of the business gave way to computers and data. Becky had always wanted a German Shepard Dog (GSD) so she raised Steuben. With the weekly socializing and training, Steuben had the perfect temperament for therapy work and Becky's love of meeting people created a team. Training and accreditation through Alliance of Therapy Dogs allowed Becky and Steuben into assisted living homes leading Becky to become an observer/tester for other dog/handler teams. Becky founded Pooch Pointers in 2019 to train people how to train their dogs at their homes and was very successful in the short time she had left leaving a legacy of good dogs. Through her whole life, Becky enjoyed camping, fishing, socializing with friends and road trips covering at least 45 states, but her favorite place was home with her husband and dogs. Becky will be missed every day by her husband, her family, all the friends she has been so close to, the honorary sisters and brothers through fraternities and sororities, the glass blowing community and the dog training community. Rest in Peace Becky. Due to the current circumstances, a public memorial will not be held. Family and close friends will gather later this summer when the memorial park details are realized.
