Otto Smead

Otto Smead, of Paw Paw, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021. Otto was born August 17, 1947. He was a lifelong mechanic and worked for General Motors and American Axle for most of his life. Otto was proud of his country and his time in the Air Force and working on B-52’s. Otto is survived by his wife of 27 years, Alice (Palsrok) Smead; his children, Tracy (Shawn) Holmes, Jennifer (Larry) VanNevel, Mike (Linda) Opalka, Scott Opalka, Lora (Robert) Plank and Edali Medel; grandchildren, Katie, Gavin, Phoebe, Alana, and Ethan; great granddaughter, Phoenix; siblings, David (Monie) Smead, Larry (Brenda) Smead, and Kathy (Patrick) Pitcher; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Otto’s family are grateful for Otto’s best friend Jose Flores. Otto is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Marian (Reynolds) Smead. Otto spent his spare time rescuing wild animals. He loved nature and canoeing. He loved working on cars and watching western movies. Otto’s motto was “Nothing broken couldn’t be fixed.” Cremation has taken place per Otto’s wishes.
