Jeanne F. VanLear Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Jeanne VanLear of Kalamazoo, passed away on June 10, 2020 at the age of 64. Jeanne was born on September 25, 1955 to Robert and Sherrie (Scott) Coash in Kalamazoo. Jean (known as Jeanne) Frances Coash VanLear, along with her twin sister Joan Mary, (d. 1960 leukemia) was born on September 25, 1955, at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She came into a family that already consisted of two little boys and two little girls. Jeanne’s parents, Robert E, and Sherrie A. (Scott) Coash, had the twins baptized in St. Augustine parish. In her young life she enjoyed playing guitar, singing with her brothers and sisters, the beach at Lake Michigan and traveling extensively in the United States with her family. She attended St. Augustine Elementary School, Monsignor O’Brien High School and graduated from the consolidated Hackett Catholic High School where she participated in school plays and a musical group that performed around Kalamazoo. She attended WMU and studied dietetics. In her adult life Jeanne lived in Hawaii, New York State, Vermont and Florida before returning to her home state of Michigan. She enjoyed watching Westerns, the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions on TV. She met the love of her life, Jun VanLear, in Florida, who followed her to Michigan to marry her on April 17, 1997. She worked for Bill Knapps, Holiday Inn and Best Western Hotels, and the Shell Oil Company. Jeanne enjoyed the arts; she was an accomplished cook who enjoyed exploring Asian cuisine, loved to read, preferred vacationing in Central America, and engaging in many craft projects, especially crochet. Jeanne was preceded in death by her twin and her mother. She is survived by her husband, Jun VanLear, who is employed by the Kalamazoo Library System, and her Father, Robert E. Coash, a resident of The Fountains. She is survived by her two children: Derek Daviau of Columbia City, Indiana and Danielle Larkin of Durham, North Carolina, and four siblings: James (Martha) Coash of Gobles, Carol (Ross) Feltes of Pentwater, Richard (Deborah) Coash of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Cathy (Peter) Schroder of Plano, Texas. She is survived also by several nieces and nephews. A family celebration of Jeanne’s life will be planned for later this year.
